Xu Feng’s New Book Purple Clay Teapot Making Launch Event Held at Yada Academy

On the afternoon of June 12th, Making Teapot by Words – Mr. Xu Feng’s New Book Purple Clay Teapot Making Launch Event was held at Yada Academy. The author Mr. Xu Feng shared his original intention of writing this book and the creation experience with online & offline audience. Co-founder of Yada Academy Mr. Yang Kui hosted the event.



On the site, Director of Jiangsu Phoenix Literature & Art Publishing Mr. Zhang Zaijian, Member of CPC Yixing Standing Committee, Director of Propaganda Department and Director of United Front Work Department Mr. Ma Zhong, as well as Leading Party Members’ Group Secretary and Chairman of Wuxi Municipal Literary Federation Mr. Yang Jian made remarks accordingly. Vice-Chairman of Chinese Writers Association Mr. Li Jingze, Leading Party Members’ Group Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Writers Association and First Secretary of Secretariat Mr. Wang Xingguo, Secretary of Chinese Writers Association’s Secretariat and Chief Editor of People’s Literature Mr. Shi Zhanjun, as well as Vice-Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Writers Association and Professor of Sun Yat-sen University Mr. Xie Youshun gave their speeches via video, sending their congratulations to the publishing of Purple Clay Teapot Making, and expressing their understanding to the publishing significance.



Two winners of Mao Dun Literature Prize Mr. Ge Fei and Mr. Su Tong, Vice-President and Professor of Nanjing University’s News and Communication College Ms. Li Xiaoyu, President of Yixing Ceramic Industry Association Mr. Shi Juntang, as well as Chinese Crafts and Artisan Master Mr. Gu Shaopei told their personal feeling after reading Purple Clay Teapot Making respectively and the profound connotation of this book.



Editor in charge of the book Ms. Zhang Li, Former Director of Jiangsu Phoenix Literature & Art Publishing, the Publisher and Writer Mr. Huang Xiaochu, Mr. Gu Jingzhou’s Apprentice Mr. Ge Taozhong as well as the Author Mr. Xu Feng talked about the creation process of this book. From interview, acquisition, edit to publishing, the coming out of this book required efforts of all parties, representing treasure of the whole team to traditional Chinese crafts and pursuit to the spirit of originality.



According to Mr. Xu Feng, he was connected to purple clay in nature. What he gained most by writing this book was the method to describe purple clay in a literary way. Since ancient times, what made the art history and craft inheriting of Yixing purple clay richer and clearer was just literary creation. He made a teapot by words, making readers who don’t know about teapot could understand the mystery of teapot making and generate more interest and yearning. It was also suitable for persons who were familiar with teapot to gain wider vision and cognition.


At the end of the event, Co-founder of Yada Academy Mr. Yang Kui said, time might be the real main role whether for Mr. Ge Taozhong making teapots in purple clay, or for Mr. Xu Feng making teapots by words, or in the long process of editing and publishing for this book. No matter what people or things would show the true colors after time washing. The pineapple-shape teapot made by Mr. Ge Taozhong was created for decades of years. The writing of this book lasted four to five years. It was because of  the accumulation of time that we could understand the power of Taoism through utensils.



This event was hosted by Jiangsu Phoenix Literature & Art Publishing and Yixing Propaganda Department, as well as sponsored by Yada Academy, Modern Express Newspaper Office, Yixing Municipal Literature & Art Association, Yixing Municipal Culture, Sports, Broadcasting, Television and Tourism Bureau, Yixing Ceramics Industry Association and Yixing Writers Association. The whole process was lively broadcasted on three platforms, namely Modern Express + Zaker Nanjing, the official Wechat Channel and the official Sina blog account of Jiangsu Phoenix Literature & Art Publishing, attracting more than 400, 000 views in total.
