Alila Wuzhen Won Excellent Architecture of German Design Award 2020

Recently, results of German Design Award 2020 have been announced. Alila Wuzhen, invested & constructed by Yada and designed by goa, has won Excellent Architecture of German Design Award 2020.

The Hotel locates in Zhejiang Yada International Health Ecological Park (IHEP). At the initial stage of design, goa strived to create a 21st century modern water town, making Alila Wuzhen to exceed the traditional image of Wuzhen town.  

Through integrated construction of planning, architecture, interior and furniture, goa delivers a design work with unified expression and completeness. The Hotel plane layout uses traditional Jiangnan water town settlement space as the prototype, and extracts symbolic elements of public space, such as village core, water gate, laneway canal, etc., to create a windmill-form grid system.

Architecture there adopts geometric contour and control line of horizontal system to bring an intense artificial sense and set off straight landscape. The limited height differences within very small scope could eliminate rigid boundaries and add gentle & stable experience during walk. White and grey, the only two tones retained for architecture, peel image of water town from specific symbols such as building year and architectural style, rebuild expressions with nature and concentrate the resort hotel into an abstract water town.

In virtue of geographic feature of Wuzhen as water town and good-quality natural resources of Wuzhen Yada IHEP, Alila Wuzhen has been designed with water lane landscape, which eliminates the boundary between the artificial and the natural, reserves native vegetation such as metasequoia, creates evergreen landscape with colorful seasons and enjoys natural view of Egret Wetland at Yada IHEP, forming unique and appealing scenery.

German Design Award was founded and organized by German Design Council under the initiative of the Bundestag Lower House in 1953. It is awarded to innovative design companies and designers. Only works recommended by German Design Council are qualified to be nominated. Most of nominates are also winners of international design awards. In the sense, it is also called the Award of Awards. In virtue of the organizer independency, high-quality jury as well as international reputation and high attendance of the Award, German Design Award has become international design award with high value.
