New Landmark in Yixing – Dongpo Pavilion Opens

By the side of Yangxian Lake and on the top of Xishan

Lies the Dongpo Pavilion.

Climbing up and looking far into the distance,

Enjoy beautiful scenery of Yangxian Xishan in Yixing southern mountain area,

Including glittering Yangxian Lake,

Smoke from kitchen chemistries in villages far and flourishing bamboo,

And other Jiangnan-featured scenery.

Mr. Su Shi, the great writer of Earlier Song Dynasty had been to Yixing for dozens of times.

He traveled in mountains and waters,

Wrote a large amount of proses and poems on Yixing,

And left lots of precious writings and paintings.

A sentence “Why Settling at Yangxian for my remaining life? For its beautiful scenery”

Showing the motivation of Mr. Su to Yangxian Xishan.

In this morning, Dongpo Pavilion was unveiled officially.

Mr. Zhu Guangya, the professor of Architecture School of East South University,

Also a leading authority in domestic ancient building field,

Conducted the design of Dongpo Pavilion.

He made his address in the Opening Ceremony.

Hilly Yangxian Xishan was characteristic of Mi-style landscape called by traditional Chinese painters. It is extreme caution that designing the courtyard and pavilion of a picturesque scenery requires. On one hand, it need integrate the landform into landscape. On the other hand, it should embody the style of Song Dynasty and the spirit of Dongpo.

The overall architecture of Dongpo Pavilion was constructed according to the official buildings in Yingzao Fashi from the Song Dynasty.

Would be the commanding ground to view Yada Yangxian Xishan geographically,

Also a station to mediate inner challenges in life

And a light lightening Yangxian landscape.

Dongpo Pavilion

Architectural features and style: the overall architecture of Dongpo Pavilion was constructed according to the official buildings in Yingzao Fashi from the Song Dynasty, with Jiangnan-style hall framework of the Song Dynasty and architectural complex space imagery of Song paintings. Architecture was in harmony with the natural landscape.

The complex at the mountain top was composed of the main pavilion, Jade and Verdancy that were connected by buildings, corridors and Rainbow Bridge into an enclosed courtyard.

The mountain complex contained three entrance gates, namely Dongda, Qiankun and Zhongbo as well as veranda.

Design team: Mr. Zhu Guangya, the leading authority of domestic ancient building, professor and doctor supervisor of East South University.

Construction team: Suzhou Xiangshan Ancient Building Construction Company, level A ancient building construction company at home mainly composed of Suzhou “Xiangshan Group”.

Dongpo Pavilion is a main part in Yada Yangxian Xishan (as known as Yixing Yada Health Ecological Park, Yada HEP). Yada HEP was listed as the major project of Jiangsu in 2018 and the major tourism project of Jiangsu in 2019. It covers about 6180 mu as planned with 550000 m2 of building area. The total investment is estimated 8 billion yuan. It is planned as a compound pan culture & tourism project themed wellness and aged care facing to eastern China and a tourists center for Yixing Yangxian Ecological Tourism Zone.
