Review of 2020 Yada Academy Series Activities for National Day and Mid-autumn Day

In 2020, the Mid-autumn Day and National Day were on the same day. On such a festival for national celebration and family reunion, Yada residents were back to Xishan. Yada Academy, one important cultural facility in Yada Project, elaborately prepared a grand feast of culture experience for residents to enjoy tranquil handwork time in spare time of celebration.

On the Mid-autumn Day and National Day, Yada Academy held a class to paint on the lantern for blessing. Residents at different ages arrived at the classroom early to wait. The traditional Chinese painting teacher distributed color combination table to participants, and guided and encourage them to begin to paint and feel the charm of “free to create” of traditional Chinese painting. While drawing, the residents shared their feelings. Their affection and sense of sucess to their works could be found in their smiles.

After the class, participants said, the traditional Chinese painting was not as difficult as they thought, for it was free in form, featured freehand brushwork. They would try to paint more often.

In the class to make moon-shape fan with pressed flowers, participants caught a flash of inspiration to arrange, paste and shape flowers on the fan with shimmer. The finished delicate moon-shape fans won surprise and admiration from passing tourists.

The fans made by madams were delicate. The fans made by sirs combined hardness with softness in terms of color and conception. When western pressed flowers met oriental moon-shape fans, both romantic and elegance were generated in the holiday.

Yixing tea had long history. Yada Academy, locating in Yixing landscape, organized a special tea party for golden autumn. At the independent space in Life Bookstore, there were delicate purple sand tea set, Chinese-style bouquets with sense of Zen and yummy refreshments on tables, which got “wows” from participants for meticulous preparation.

During the tea party, the teacher shared her experience on distinguishing, tasting and making tea, including the interesting comparison of tea water with tea, display of water PH level with sense of science and technology and combination of tea drinking and abdominal respiration for wellness. The activity also prepared refreshment to avoid drunk in tea.

Metal-opening bag making was the most popular life aesthetics lesson in Yada Academy. Yada Academy specially arranged two sessions. Every session was full of participants. Senior residents did better job in sewing bags than the youth for their rich life experience. After the “baptism” of pricking fingers, younger residents tried to complete their works.

Besides, Yada Academy also organized other lessons during the holiday, including handmade paper quilling, artistic flower arrangement, kite painting, pressed flower bookmark making, making perfume satchel with ancient prescription, fans making and etc.

As the Phase I delivery was completed, Yada Yangxian Xishan was welcoming more and more residents home. Yada Academy also did its best to bring more wonderful lessons and rich activities to families.
