Dongpo Pavilion Gathering for Appreciating the Mid-autumn Moon in Poetry

On the afternoon of September 15th, the 5th Session of Xishan Leading Reader Program with the theme of “Dongpo Pavilion Gathering for Appreciating the Mid-autumn Moon in Poetry” was held at Dongpo Pavilion of Yangxian Xishan. It was jointly organized by Yada Academy and HR & Admin Department of Yada Yangxian Xishan. The Project’s staff and the residents attended this Activity together.

Before the Activity, all participants first visited the Exhibition of “Su Dongpo and Yixing” and the Origin Hall at Dongpo Pavilion, learning the indissoluble bond between Su Shi and Yixing as well as the history of Dongpo Pavilion on its establishment and development. They did not only have deeper understanding on Su Dongpo and Dongpo Pavilion, but also catched on the objective of this Activity.

This Activity invited Ms. Ma Xiao, one of the Project’s residents, to lead reading. Ms. Ma Xiao took the role of the producer in CCTV, the event organizer of Treasure Appraisal in CCTV, and the general planner and the general director of the National Juvenile Imagination Competition before. She loves Dongpo culture and Yangxian landscape. Around the theme of poetry of Tang Dynasty related to the festival and in particular the poem “Prelude to Water Melody” by Su Dongpo, she shared her own explanation, delivering the fascinating artistic conception and humanities charm of the traditional poetry.

Pipa teacher from Yada Academy and the Project’s residents showed the How Long Will the Full Moon Appear of “Prelude to Water Melody” in varied kinds of forms, such as Pipa playing, recitation and singing, delivery the literary charm of Su Shi’s Ci from different aspects.

The participants had communication and sharing on verses in poetry of Tang and Song dynasties related to the Mid-autumn Day, the relationship between Su Shi and Yixing as well as his attitude of dealing with affairs. They also talked about their own understanding on these poems’ creation background and feeling on the life experience of Su Shi.

The Activity was held before the Mid-autumn Day, one of Chinese traditional festivals. Through this Activity with the theme “Dongpo Pavilion Gathering for Appreciating the Mid-autumn Moon in Poetry”, Yada Academy made residents to know more about Dongpo Pavilion, the landmark and one of important cultural facilities at Yada Yangxian Xishan, and promoted the cultural concept of virtue and liberality and Jiangnan aesthetics advocated by it. Residents and staff could enjoy the good lifestyle of Yangxian Xishan in the traditional culture.
