10th Yada Academy Lecture & Talk Successfully Held

On the afternoon of September 19th, 10th Yada Academy Lecture & Talk was held at Yada Culture & Art Center of Yada Yangxian Xishan. Guqin artist Ms. Wu Na brought a Guqin Art Feast for an audience of more than 300 under the theme of “Mind of Qin” by live performance and interactive lecture and talk.

Ms. Wu Na has engaged in Guqin for more than 30 years. She has profound traditional theoretical basis and practical experience. In addition to explore the significance of Guqin art to today’s daily life, she also promotes Guqin as the daily program in Chinese life for Guqin is not outdated in her opinion.

The Activity began with a Guqin improvisation of 40 minutes by Ms. Wu Na. Her Guqin was ups and downs, extremely miraculous like the sound of nature. The audience was led to complete a journey of mind renovation.

During the interactive lecture & talk, Ms. Wu Na talked about what she learned from Guqin and her artistic pursuit, and recalled her experience with the great Guqin master Mr. Cheng Gongliang who was born in Yixing. In 1992, inspired by Mr. Cheng, Ms. Wu Na stepped into the world of improvisation. Mr. Cheng became her guiding star in improvisation, as she said.

On the Guqin art, Ms. Wu Na said, Guqin was her Destiny. She kept breaking and creating rules, finding freedom in rules and vice versa.

The Host of this Activity Mr. Yang Kui shared some classic sayings on Guqin in all ages, including “Qin means emotion, containment and mind”. Containment, mind and emotion coincided with morality, concentration and wisdom that was used to say in Buddhism. The emotion living through containment and mind was different from the emotion of the seven emotions and six sensory pleasures. It was broader and more profound based on the equanimity.

Ms. Wu Na compared Guqin performance to a path of life cultivation. As a kind of media, Qin helped to find a path connecting our inside. The sound of Qin was from the inside, and returned back to the body through ears and to the mind finally. The theme of this Activity “Mind of Qin” was just derived from this journey.

After the interactive lecture & talk, Ms. Wu Na played her Guqin again for the audience. She performed two classic pieces Potomania and Running Water. Abundant variations brought the quite traditional music to a new state, winning prolonged applause at the site.

This Lecture & Talk was the first time that Yada Academy invited a performer to share music knowledge. In the past two year since Yada Academy Lecture & Talk began, the lecturers included the cultural celebrities from different fields, such as writers, editors, painters and scholars in ancient poetry, sharing knowledge with rich themes and profound content for Xishan residents and winning wide praise. On April 25th 2020, Propaganda Department of Yixing Municipal Committee issued Yada Academy Lecture & Talk “2019 Yixing Excellent Reading Project (Brand) Award”. On December 15th in the same year, Yada Academy Lecture & Talk was listed in Yixing Public Reading Promotion Demonstration Projects. With the aspiration of spreading Jiangnan Culture and gathering talented elites all over the world who devote themselves to carry forward Jiangnan Culture, Yada Academy launches a series cultural activity – Yada Academy Lectures & Talks. In the future, the Academy will invite more culture celebrities from different fields to share their insights and exchange their understandings, promoting the prosperity of Jiangnan culture.
