Gaochun Graceland 2nd Session of Half An Hour Reading Salon Held Successfully

On the afternoon of May 14th, the 2nd session of Half An Hour Reading Salon was held successfully. The reading leader Madam Li with more than a dozen of residents gathered at the Shared Reading Room of Gaochun Graceland, tasting the tea and sharing what they read and endless joy of life.

Madam Li: likes reading, sharing and life

I am an old literary soldier and also the promoter of Gagochun District reading activity. I like to make friends by reading. Reading brings me too much happiness, growth and joy. I share the book Only One Life: Eight Lessons on Philosophy of Life:

“This book is for the juvenile to explore how to spend a person’s whole life. The author is philosopher Mr. He Huaihong. The wording is gentle, elegant and honest. It offers his opinion on the philosophy of life under eight themes. Anyone who is confused could find his own answer from the book. We always think about how to treasure today’s life, how to face with the life in the future, how to deal with difficulties in the life, and how to insist positive attitude and love to life in any context, and how to be regretless to do what we should do.”

Madam Mao: feels the grand atmosphere in little fairy tales

I was born in a painting family. I am a romanticism. I insist reading and painting, that could keep my mindset young. I particular like fairy tales. They could lead me to a true, good and beautiful kingdom. Today I shared Little Hand Fairy Tales:

“The book integrates poems, proses and fairy tales into one, full of childishness and positive.  Today, I would like to read part of it and invite you into a fairy world full of happiness and warmth, to feel the grand atmosphere in little fairy tales.”

Ms. Li: reading like entering into another world

I am a mother accompanying my child studying. I like reading and travel. It is my ideal life that going to the place I want and reading a book I like. I often read books with my daughter. When I feel confused or boring, books could lead me to another world. Today I recommend the book The Dream of Red Mansions.

“I have read it for many times.  What impressed me most is the life is like a dream. Even in the extreme perfect status, it is still like an evil hidden in the chasm and no one is willing to mention it. That is the desire, bloody power and influence, terrible poverty and the hatred from the humble. Any hopeless situation in this book can be described as “things go athwart”. That is also another kind of beauty.”

Mr. Yang: A painting is a life

I am the teacher of traditional Chinese painting in Graceland. I have various interests. After retirement, I started a new passage – my ideal life. I paint, read, do exercise and take photos. Today, I recommend the book Father’s Paintings.

“Comic of Mr. Feng Zikai comes from the reality, in particular the theme on children. Most of them are inspired by his old sister and young brother. The book contains stories of Mr. Feng Zikai on his comic. From the warm wording, we can feel the life philosophy.”

Ms. Yang: reading history inspires wise

I started my retirement life since this month. Now I have more time to enjoy life. By reading, I understand many life concepts and the joy in it. Today I will recommend Things in Ming Dynasty.

“Characters in Ming Dynasty of 300 years history became vivid in this book. Sometimes, I was filled with indignation. Sometimes, I was very excited, shocked or moved to cry. Reading history brings wise to me. Learning the past is good to treat today. In the long history river, countries changed. That contained the wise of existence. Every figure who rode the whirlwind had his/her world philosophy that is worth of learning.”

Madam Yan: A Happiness As A Master Looks Like A Fool

I am a retired teacher. When I was young, I met many difficulties. I kept learning and know the significance of reading. In my opinion, my rich life experience is like a book. Today, I will recommend Late Matures.

“When I was young, I regarded early-maturing good. I always wanted to be perfect for everything. However, when I grow up, I felt a mature man is easy to be tired. It is a kind of happiness that to be a master who looks like a fool. In this book, there are 12 stories, telling the current social problems. Through them, I review my life. When facing with different problems, I am a mature man or not. No matter how old I am, whether I could treat them in a proper, right and wise way.”

Ms. Li: feels the charm of well-known works in different stages

I am a stay-at-home mother. Influenced by my children, I like reading. I am a very common stay-at-home mom and had no too much education. When my children grow up gradually, I picked up their books to read occasionally. Therefore, I like to read step by step. Today, I share with you Anna Karenina.

“All happy families are like one another. Each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. This the beginning of this novel, and also a well-known sentence attracting readers to go on. There are no two same leaves. No one could have the empathy on other’s life. But we could understand something from the short but enthusiastic life of Anna. In my opinion, you will get different feelings from this book at different stages of your life. That is the charm of well-known works.”
