Peony Pavilion Performed at Yada Theater

On September 3^rd, the Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre performed the Peony Pavilion selected scene at Yada Theater of Yixing Yada Health Ecological Park. The activity led the audience into an immersive experience on the art charm o the Kunqu Opera Peony Pavilion by a themed lecture, makeup show and performance.

In the activity, Mr. Cao Yixing, the Vice Director of the Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre and the national 2^nd-grade actor, made a profound lecture in simple language on the evolution process of Kunqu Opera. He also shared the developmen of the Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre. By many treasured old photos, he showed the renaissance of Kunqu Opera in the northern area. In 2001, Kunqu Opera was listed into the masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO. That is the pride of Kunqu Opera, but also the pride of Chinese culture.

Ms. Gu Weiying, the national first-grade actress and one of Plum Blossom Prize winners, shared her artistic experience and told the creation background and art feature of Peony Pavilion. By explaining the tune, music for voices, motion details and emotional expression, she led the audience to learn the pattern and artistic charm of the Opera further. Regarding to Yangxian Xishan, she said here was so comfortable that all cells of body were like to be activited. It was filled with landscape that was similar with that of Peony Pavilion. She even forgot to go back.

Makeup show was one of features in this activity. The actors made up in the site. The audience could view in a close distance and witness the transmutation from the noumenon to the role, ande feel the beauty of Kunqu Opera makeup.

The performance in the activity was wonderful. Ms. Gu Weiying performed the classic chapter of Peony Pavilion with excellent young actors.

Mr. Yang Kui, the cofounder of Yada Academy hosted the activity. He expected the audidence to enjoy the artistic beauty of Kunqu Opera in the landscape of Yangxian Xishan. The activity was organized by one of Yangxian Xishan residents Mr. Kong Jie. He is one host of Beijing TV and chaired opera programs for a long time. He made great contribution to the popularity of Chinese opera and was honored Opera China Person of the Year 2021
