MOHRSS: Basic Insurance Participants Exceeding 1.06 Billion

On October 26, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security held a press conference for the third quarter of 2023. At the meeting, Chen Feng, spokesman of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and deputy director of the Policy Research Department, introduced that as of the end of September, the number of people participating in basic pension, unemployment and work-related injury insurance in the country was 1.06 billion, 240 million and 300 million respectively. From January to September, the total income of the three social security funds was 5.8 trillion yuan, and the total expenditure was 5.2 trillion yuan, with a cumulative balance of 8.0 trillion yuan at the end of September, and the operation of the funds was generally stable. There were 1.377 billion social security card holders, covering 97.4 percent of the population, and 851 million people received electronic social security cards.
