High Paraplegia Patient Completes Upper Limb Movement through Brain-Computer Interface Technology

Date:2020.01.17

Recently, patient in China with high paraplegia has achieved controlling arm by brain-computer interface technology to complete upper limb movements such as eating, drinking and shaking hands for the first time. The success of brain-computer interface technology’s clinical application proves that China's brain-computer interface technology has the ability to be practically used, and the actions that patients can complete with this technology have been relatively rich, which can greatly improve life quality of patients.

It is understood that there are nearly 100 million patients with sequelae of limb movement paralysis caused by cerebral stroke and brain & spinal cord injury worldwide, and there are 20-30 million in China. Although the current implantation of invasive brain-computer interface is not permanent, for the majority of paralyzed patients, brain-computer interface will greatly change their lives and improve their quality of life.
