Yangxian Xishan Another Growing Beat - Yada Theater Starts Construction

Recently, ecological town of Yixing Yangxian Xishan, developed by Yada and designed by GOA, has ushered in new progress. The important cultural landmark of the town, Yada Theater is going to start construction soon.

Yangxian Xishan was born at the node of the era when town construction turned from fanatic nuggets to rational cultivation. It is a well-prepared rural experiment under the background of contemporary urbanization by developers and architects, also the first town development project that is expected to be fully open and self-operating. The construction of Yada Theatre is another growing beat of Yangxian Xishan.

Yada Theater in Nature

Unlike many urban performing art buildings, Yada Theatre, located among green hills and tea gardens, is a true "Theater in Nature". Based on unique natural conditions, the design of Yada Theater does not adopt "Closed Box" approach, but starts from "Openness" and interprets for visitors a unique experience that blends art and nature. The design is based on the cultural allusions of the Song Dynasty literati, creating a contemporary cultural landmark in nature. The completed theater will not only serve as a venue for performing arts in the town, but also become the main living space for residents' cultural life.

Yada Theater is centered on the central courtyard, and a series of gray spaces are interspersed among it. In order to interpret the "locality", the architects have researched local building materials, and finally use the Yixing local gray-green pottery board as the exterior wall material to create a simple and elegant atmosphere. The 530-seat multi-purpose auditorium could realize the conversion of open and framed stage, which not only meets the professional performance needs of concerts and theater performances, but also adapts to other cultural event scenes. The stage background creatively uses a floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall, which is placed in it, as if it is in the "Song-style Couch" embedded in the water scene of the tea garden.

As an integrated design project, in addition to completing the architectural, interior, and landscape design, GOA Team also conduct an integrated effect review of the lighting design, curtain wall design, and special design of the auditorium, stage, lighting, and acoustics as a new and meaningful attempt.

Different from the development strategy of "one-stop", the development decision of Yangxian Xishan has chosen a more durable and refined development rhythm to give the town real life. It is this slow development strategy that makes people feel more sincere expectations for the final overall presentation of the town.
