6th Session of Xishan Leading Reader Program Held Successfully

On the afternoon of August 25th, 6th Session of Xishan Leading Reader Program themed “Quest of Pottery – The Past and Present Life of Purple Sand” was held at Life Bookstore of Yada Academy in Yada Yangxian Xishan. The resident of Yangxian Xishan Lake Community and the scholar of Yixing purple sand mineral resources research Mr. Li Hongyuan shared his knowledge on Yixing purple sand mineral resources and had an exchange with the audience.

Firstly, Mr. Li Hongyuan shared the indissoluble bound between Mr. Su Shi and Hufu as well as his affection to Yangxian Xishan. Surrounding Huanglong Mountain, the main birthplace of Yixing purple sand, he also told the mineral resource distribution, characteristics of mineral aggregate, mining way and conservation status at Huanglong Mountain, as well as the unique molding techniques and artistic charm of purple sand pots.

During the interaction, Mr. Li Hongyuan answered the questions of the audience on the current situation of purple sand mud, purple sand pots tea making and etc. He also displayed purple sand mineral aggregate and gave a detailed explanation on the purple sand pots made by different mud accordingly. The audience experienced the magic changes of purple sand before and after firing, and were deeply attracted by their unique charm.

Yixing, the famous Ceramics Capital of China, has long history of ceramics culture. Yixing purple sand is unique with good reputation home and abroad. The purple sand pottery skill of Yixing is honored as the national intangible cultural heritage. The Town Center of Yangxian Xishan has strong atmosphere of Yixing ceramics culture for there are Being Space, Cultural Creation Yixing Experience Center, Liyong Purple Sand Yixing China and other display spaces. Residents and tourists of the town could enjoy the cultural charm of Yixing purple sand in an intimate way.

Mr. Li Hongyuan, born at Dingshu Town, Yixing City in 1957, has profound theoretical base and practical experience in the field of Yixing purple sand mineral resource research. Discovery by CCTV has given a special report on him. After decades of years’ research and arrangement, he has wrote and published Atlas of Yixing Purple Sand Mineral Resource. This book is regarded as an encyclopedic reference book on overall research of Yixing purple sand mineral resource so far.

The Xishan Leading Reader Program is a public benefit activity held by Yada Academy. It invites the Park’s residents, staff and other people to share their expertise cultural knowledge. It offers residents a platform for exchange and interaction. The activity enriches the Project’s spiritual and cultural life, closes the distance between neighbors and builds up a beautiful artistic life at Yangxian Xishan together.
